The Technical Part:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Science or Engineering with at least five (5) years of experience in construction safety within the regulated industry.
  • Availability: On-site support. 
  • Bilingual: (Spanish and English)
  • Shift: Administrative, and according to business needs. 
  • Experience in:
    • Environmental, Health, and Safety on construction sites. 
    • Development of Contractor Safety Programs.
    • Managing utility, electrical, and mechanical construction projects (specifically generators, large machinery, and power distribution).
    • Strong understanding of OSHA, EPA, and other relevant regulations.

AS A PIECE OF FITS, YOU WILL: (The day-to-day on the job)

  • Coordinate daily safety inspections of engineering work areas, equipment, and facilities to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance with OSHA regulations and Amgen safety standards.
  • Facilitate safety training programs for engineering personnel, including onboarding safety orientations, equipment-specific training, and ongoing safety awareness sessions to ensure a safe work environment.
  • Investigate incidents and near-misses within the Engineering department, documenting findings, root causes, and corrective actions in the safety management system.
  • Maintain safety documentation, including permits (hot work, confined space, lock-out/tag-out), safety audits, inspection reports, and training records in compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Conduct Job Safety Analysis (JSA) reviews with engineering teams before high-risk activities, ensuring that proper risk assessments and mitigation strategies are in place.
  • Serve as liaison between Engineering and EHS (Environment, Health & Safety) teams to coordinate safety initiatives, audits, and compliance activities.
  • Monitor and track safety metrics, including incident rates, leading indicators, and audit findings, and prepare regular reports for engineering leadership.
  • Coordinate emergency response activities, including drills and evacuation procedures, and ensure that emergency equipment (eyewash stations, fire extinguishers, spill kits) is properly maintained and accessible.
  • Support contractor safety management by reviewing contractor safety plans, conducting site orientations, and monitoring compliance with Amgen safety requirements during engineering projects.
  • Lead safety committee meetings and toolbox talks, promoting employee engagement in safety programs and facilitating continuous improvement initiatives within the Engineering department.
