AS A PIECE OF FITS, YOU WILL: (The day-to-day on the job)​​​​​​

  • Develop a Study of Economic Activities and Sustainable Strategies to analyze the interactions among the diverse economic activities of Río Piedras.
  • The study must identify key businesses and propose strategies to assess and strengthen distribution networks during emergencies in order to promote a sustainable, self-sufficient local economy prepared to respond to crises. The study must integrate a SWOT analysis that summarizes the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and strengths.
  • This study will identify the economic activities of communities in Río Piedras to provide a current overview of these activities. The study should consider the constant interruptions in essential services such as water, energy, and transportation and how it affects businesses, markets, health centers, and community gardens, and weakens their capacity for economic recovery.
  • Based on the analyses conducted, the study must propose strategies to maintain essential assets operation during emergencies and recommendations for strengthening solidarity-based economic networks.
  • Identify and develop the methodology and tools necessary to conduct the study in the community. Examples include, but are not limited, to: analysis of census data, plans, economic analysis indicators, and other relevant data sources; development of data gathering tools such as surveys, interview questions, focus groups, among others; and development of cost-benefit, supply and demand, and other analyses, among other methodologies and tools.
  • Prepare a detailed workplan schedule of site visits and coordinate access to the assessment area between community representatives and residents.
  • Coordinate access to the assessment area with community representatives and residents.
  • Review historical records from federal, state, and local databases.
  • Assess applicable legal and regulatory frameworks to identify past activities and existing policies that may support viable solutions.
  • Conduct a literature review of relevant sources, including research papers, studies, books, articles, and other pertinent documentation.
  • Implement the approved methodology and data gathering tools.
  • Use and manage storage repository for all data collected and ensure Personal Identifiable Information.
  • Analyze data gathered.
  • Develop a comprehensive report summarizing the methodology used, key findings identified through analysis of existing conditions, the courses of action, and five (5) potential funding sources.
  • Create an accessible presentation for community members that summarizes the study’s objectives, methodologies, key findings, recommendations and any other relevant content included in the comprehensive report in a language accessible that ensures the community engagement and action. Visual aids such as images, maps, graphs, and infographics may be utilized to enhance understanding.
  • Coordinate the final presentation to the community with community representatives and residents.
